thecommunity@gmail.com BioI am 56 years old and I have three wonderful children: two daughters and a son. I live in Berkhamsted, a small town in the countryside about 28 miles north-west of London. I was a school teacher for 24 years, and have also worked in a hospital and several prisons. I have written one novel so far and at present I'm working on a second and a book on feminist theology and the gender of Godde. I also write poetry - I stick stuff up on my little wilderness website at bothy.com. I love the poetry of Shelley and Yeats. My christian experience started with a conversion experience in the Scottish Highlands and charismatic experience was part of my early christian encounters. As I have grown older, I have moved towards a more open and less evangelical approach to my faith. I regard the Bible as an inspired book or books, but I also regard it as a fallible document: the sincere efforts of individuals to explain and express their spiritual encounters, set however within the limitations of their own times and societies. I summarise spirituality in terms of 'Love' - and like everyone else I struggle to open my life to that Love... to its flow and gentleness and giving. I identify as a christian because of my faith in Jesus Christ and profound encounters in my life which convince me that in Jesus Christ, we see Godde in a deeply personal way: a Godde of Love proclaiming a Gospel of Love. I am a christian because in my heart I recognise the reality of my encounters with Jesus. However, I believe that all humanity experiences encounters in their lives, and we need to listen to one another and try to learn from one another. I am not that interested in a kind of ghetto christianity, built around rigid dogmas and a tribal claim that 'our' religion is the right one. I am much more interested in exploring my faith in a more open-ended journey, seeking to respect and celebrate social, sexual, religious and cultural diversity, and trying to see the original beauty that lies hidden within every individual. The greatest commandment is Love. Our lives pass so soon, in a flow, and if we open our hearts to the love of Godde, if we let ourselves be carried instead of always trying to control, then we maybe find ourselves actually living, actually opening and living whole. This great love emanates from a deeper reality and returns to that deeper reality. And in that reality is a person. Everywhere. The amazing person of Godde.
